See all locations in Los AngelesProbably one of the world’s best known destinations, Hollywood lies to the north west of central Los Angeles. As the historical home of American cinema and television, it often conjures up images of glamour, cash, and celebrity madness.
And although the Walk of Fame and Kodak Theatre are all you’ll need to be convinced of the area’s dazzling reputation, you’ll soon discover that it’s more than just a playground for the rich and famous. With a diverse population and a range of wining, dining, and party locations for those of all tastes, Hollywood caters for everyone out to explore its stretching boulevards and gleaming shopping malls.
But don’t expect to catch a glimpse of your favourite film star as you stroll the streets –most celebrities (sensibly) tend to avoid the more crowded areas. Yet if it’s the splendour and gossip that’s got you longing for Hollywood, you’ll find plenty to satisfy your appetite. Head out for a screening at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre (complete with cement foot and hand prints from the world’s biggest stars), then indulge in a meal at The Ivy (where your chances of spotting a celeb are greatly improved). A trip up Mulholland Drive is the best way to admire some excellent views of downtown L.A. or try your luck at star seeking. If you don’t manage to spot any super celebs, you can always kick back in one of many cafés, restaurants, or bars and enjoy the unique Hollywood atmosphere.
A destination for anyone looking to experience a slice of showbiz, L.A.’s most famous district is not somewhere you’ll forget. Sometimes superficial, sometimes bizarre, but always worth checking out, there’s no place quite like Hollywood.
