INDEX OF ALL states AND LOCATIONSAmerica is a modern country and is relatively free from endemic diseases. Medical facilities are commonly available but can be very expensive. Travellers are advised to make sure they have sufficient medical coverage as part of their travel insurance before going to the USA. Emergency facilities in hospitals should be used for genuine emergencies only as they will charge high fees for their services. Walk in clinics are also widely available and for general consultations are probably the best option for travellers. Be sure to let them know you are paying out of pocket as most Americans carry medical insurance and clinics will not hesitate to order up a full suite of test and expect you to pay for them.
In terms of natural hazards, these can vary as the United States covers a very large area. Southern states can experience very severe storms and hurricanes between June and November. Additionally tornadoes can occur in "Tornado alley" and area which includes the states of Oklahoma, Nebraska, Kansas, South and North Dakota. Part of the west coast, in particular California can experience severe bush fires or wild fires in the summer months. California can also experience earthquakes as it lies on the San Andreas fault.
Although the USA has a high level of violent crime compared to other western countries, it is still relatively unlikely for visitors to experience crime while travelling. In general these types of crime mainly occur in particular areas and visitors are unlikely to visit these areas. In general visitors should try to avoid looking like a tourist and keep valuables out of site. Most cities are fine to go out after dark as long as taking normal precautions.
911 is the emergency number to call for ambulance, fire or police.
