Languages

English is the language spoken throughout the United States and almost everyone in the country will speak it. There are local accents but english apeaking travellers will have no troubles communicating. Spanish is spoken by many americans particularly around the border area with mexico and some french is known as well however mostly it is expected that people will speak and understand english.

To dial into the United States the country code is +1, each area will have an 3 digit area code which does not need to be dialled for local calls. To dial out of the US you will need to dial 011 prior to the international number.

Mobile coverage is very good in urban areas however the GSM system that is common in many countries is not widely used in the USA and you may not e able to use your own phone. You can buy a prepaid mobile as an alternative or even rent one for the duration of your stay.

Most homes in the US have internet access and consequently internet cafes are not as common as in some countries. Public libraries will generally have computer terminals with internet access available for free. If you bring your own computer many hotels will have internet access available. Additionally many cafes, coffee shops, airports and even some whole cities have wireless internet access for free.

The US Postal service is available nation wide for letter and parcel delivery. Additionally visitors can recieve mail from post offices by having letters or parcels delivered as "General Delivery" to the post office where the visitor is staying.
