Edinburgh and the Lothians Information

The beautiful capital of Scotland and the surrounding area is often a travellers favourite place from Europe. The wonderful architecture ranges between the medieval cobbled lane-ways and tenements of the Old Town as they wind down the Royal Mile, to the graceful lines of the Georgian New Town. Looking down on the town is the magnificent Edinburgh Castle reminding visitors of more turbulent times long ago.

Edinburgh is a city where you will discover new treasures around every corner ancient courtyards and interesting alleyways, or the sudden discovery of a stunning view. Among all the charm, Edinburgh is also a modern and thriving city with all of the trimmings you would expect from a European capitals.

Beyond Edinburgh, the surrounding Lothian country is a beautiful setting for the capital. This area has a rich history, and there are remnants of old times scattered throughout the lands. Grand mansions and the sites of old battlefields abound, castles from these turbulent times still stand, time weary but intact.

The Lothian landscape stretches along the southern flanks of the Firth of Forth and has some glorious coastlines, parklands, and it is a popular destination for walking in the hills, picnicking in the countryside or relaxing by the sea.

It's also the heartland of that most Scottish game of golf and some of the very best course of the world can be found here.
