In south-western Europe lies a rich and unique culture with lively cities and beautiful countryside. Portugal shares the Iberian Peninsula with Spain and takes up much of the western coastline. Once one of the poorest countries in Western Europe, Portugals future now looks bright following the introduction of Democracy in 1974 and it's inclusion in the EU in 1986.

Portugal offers a diverse landscape ranging from the green hills of the North, the central areas with craggy mountains and near deserts and the beautiful beaches in Algarve and the south. One of Portugals biggest drawcards is it's stunning climate, one of the warmest in Europe.

The country offers a wonderful combination of European landscapes, culture and way of life. From the old university town of Coimbra to Lord Byron’s favorite, Sintra, and of course the tiny seaside towns of the Algarve, the country’s long and proud history can be felt everywhere. There are stunning beaches like Cascais and Sagres, as well as the sandy islands of Portugal’s coastline with protected coves and dramatic cliffs. The country’s capital, Lisbon, and its northern rival, Porto, also offer the visitor riverside views, cobblestone streets and looming cathedrals. Portugal has also become known as one of the best golfing locations in the world following a great deal of investment in top quality courses in recent years. Portugal is arguably one of the best value destinations on the Continent.
