Visa Requirements

Citizens of a large number of nations can enter New Zealand on a three-month visitor entry in most circumstances - this includes Canada, the US, Ireland and many EU countries. Australian citizens do not require a visa to enter New Zealand and citizens of the UK can enter and stay in New Zealand for up to six months without a visa. However, immigration officials reserve the right to reject this waiver, for reasons such as a criminal record. For more information, including terms and conditions, visit the New Zealand immigration website below. This site also includes a full list of the countries for which citizens can enter visa free.

A passport valid for at least three months past the date you intend to leave New Zealand is also required and you may be required to show immigration officials that you have return or onward tickets and adequate means of support and accommodation upon entering New Zealand.

There are different departure taxes and exemptions depending upon which airport you are departing from. The departure taxes generally range from NZ$10 for children, up to NZ$25 for adults. Sometimes this tax is included in the ticket price but at some airports it must be paid, extra to the ticket price, upon departure. It is wise to check this before you arrive at the airport of your departure.

As entry requirements may change from time to time it is strongly advised that you check with the department of foreign affairs or your local consulate or embassy for the current requirements.

We strongly advise that all Australian travellers check the latest travel advice on the Australian Government Smart Traveller site.
