South Island Information

The South Island of New Zealand is larger but much less populated than it's northern neighbour, with just under a million population. The wild and rugged west coast is home to the spectacular Alps and a number of glaciers that are easily accessible. The whole of the South Island is known for it's astonishing scenery, rugged mountains, glaciers, wild and lush rainforests and fast flowing rivers, it was the setting for much of The Lord of the Rings films. The Fiordland region in the north of the island is World Heritage listed and is home to the renowned Milford Sound.

Christchurch, the largest city on the south island is a beautiful city, known for it's gardens and Dunedin is New Zealands oldest town. Queenstown is a world renowned centre for adventure at any time of the year, it is a great base for snow skiing, mountain biking, bungie jumping and trekking.
