Playa del Carmen Information

Playa del Carmen, or just "Playa" as it is commonly known, is an ideallic and cosmopolitan beachside town on the Caribbean Sea, around 50 kilometres of 35 miles south of Cancun.

It is one of those places for a holiday where you can really wind down and relax. In the centre of the area known as the Mayan Riviera, the beach is of course one of the main attractions, with long stretches of white sand, fronting warm clear waters. It is perfectly complimented by a town with a european feel where everything is within easy walking distance, and there are plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants that will cater to your needs no matter your budget. Boutique hotels and lodgings also span from 5 star to basic.

Playa del Carmen is a great base from which to explore the Mayan Riviera, good public transport and plenty of tour operators make it easy and relatively cheap to head out and explore the area. There are some fascinating Mayan ruins not far away and some sleepy little villages and sea-side towns to explore as well. Deep sea fishing is another popular pastime, but make sure to ask around as some charter operators are most definately better than others.

Playa is a relaxed and easy destination for a no-fuss break but with enough opportunities for adventure should the need to take a break from relaxing strike.
