The Maldives lie south-southwest of India and are considered part of Southern Asia. 26 atolls form the Maldives which are giant ring like coral formations hundreds of kilometres wide that have fragmented into countless islands. Situated in the Indian Ocean it is a paradise for sun seekers and water sports enthusiasts.

Today the country is one of the most politically progressive in Asia. Former President Gayoom ruled the Maldives for a 30 year period followed by President Mohamed Nasheed who was elected to the office in a democratic 2008 election. This made the Maldives one of the few Muslim democracies in the world. The country now pursues a liberal progressive agenda primarily focusing on improving health care and education, tourism development and environmental protection.

Luxury, romance and tropical bliss is how you would describe the Maldives. There are enormous lagoons, brilliant white sandy beaches, and nautical delights such as night fishing trips, scuba diving and windsurfing.
