Santubong Information

The Santubong area is a peninsular and Sarawak's premier beach destination. It is located about 35 kilometres north of Kuching and lies adjacent to the Sarawak River and the base of the spectacular Gurung Santubong which rises 810 metres from the sea just to the north. The peninsular is popular with travellers and it is not hard to see why. The area is a natural wonderland with beaches, rainforest, mangroves, mountains and wildlife all of which can be explored with relative ease. The unusual Proboscis monkeys are found here in the Baku National Park. The national park is accessed via a 15 minute boat ride.

Also on the peninsular are lovely traditional Malay villages, and a huge variety of activities that can be undertaken including jungle treks and kayaking. Keep an eye out near the main park office as there are several types of monkeys that can be seen in the surrounding trees.

Damai is the main centre for beach resorts on the peninsular, it has a safe beach for swimming and is within striking distance of many of the areas other attractions. Nearby is a famous Arnold Palmer designed 18 hole golf course, 9 of which take in the foothills of Santubong Mountain.

Another treat that can be found at the base of the mountain is the Permai Rainforest Resort, it is a stunning eco-resort which blends in with the surrounding forest. Visitors can stay in truly unique treehouse accommodation allowing them to get up lose with the rainforest and it's inhabitants.
