Luxembourg enjoys a mild temperate climate with rainfall in all seasons, especially winter. The average precipitation is around 800mm per annum. Summers (June to August) are warm and winters (December to February) are cool to cold. Average winter temperatures range from lows of -2°C to maximum temperatures of 6°C, while summer temperatures are a very pleasant 10°C to 22°C. Tourists visit Luxembourg all year round, but the most popular times are summer when most festivals occur, autumn when the vineyards come alive with harvest celebrations, and spring for its explosion of magnificent flowers.
The Oesling is the hilly forested area covering the northern third of Luxembourg. Here, temperatures can be three or four degrees lower and humidity slightly higher than in the capital. In the southwest more rainfall occurs with an average of about 1000mm per year. The southeast is drier and the vineyards of the sheltered Moselle Valley benefit from sunny, mild weather year round.
