Lying off the eastern coast of the Asian continent across the Sea of Japan, is an archipelago of 5 large islands which together make up the nation of Japan. This country is many things to many people. It's a startling glimpse into a technological future, a moving experience of ancient traditions, a wild ride through thriving and buzzing cities or a peaceful moment gazing across a stunning rural vista. This is a country that has brought to the world many and varied offerings, from the latest tech devices to sushi and geisha and a trip to Japan has just as much variety on offer.

The capital Tokyo is the world's largest urban conglomeration. It is a buzzing city of futuristic design, trend setting fashion, cafes, restaurants and more. Look a little beneath the surface though and even in this place the ancient spirituality lies just below the surface. The most modern of structures will have minimalist designs reflecting a heritage only recently discovered by the outside world.

The historic cities of Kyoto and Nara are filled with treasures from Japan's cultural past, here visitors can visit beautifully preserved temples Buddhist shrines and traditional gardens, and enjoy traditional tea ceremonies, the dance-drama of kabuki and see some of the countries most impressive museums.

Elsewhere mountain ski resorts, ideallic beaches and misty mountains offer a surprising number of opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors and time away from the crowds of the cities.

Japan is also easy to travel in, great value for money, safe and friendly, which when put together with the wonderful quality and variety of things to see and do make it very attractive indeed.
