The Ring of Kerry is located in the South West of Ireland and is a 170 Kilometre loop around the Iveragh Peninsula. The route is one of the best known and busy tourist routes in Ireland, although it is easy to see why. Spectacular scenery of wild and craggy coastlines, serene inlets and waterways, sheep inhabited pasturelands and quaint villages is your constant companion. The scenery makes a good distraction from the rather exciting roads which wind there way along cliffs and are sometimes very narrow.
As well as the natural scenery, there are many heritage sites including ruined monasteries and iron age forts as well as stately mansions and their gardens. For those wanting to stay a while the whole area is a haven for outdoor activities including walking, cycling, golf and of course fishing.
Allow a full day to do the drive with stops. Due to the several small towns and tight, winding roads the actual travel time is about 5 hours and longer with bad weather or traffic.
