Dublin County Information

Situated on Ireland's east coast, Dublin is buzzing right now. Originally a Viking city, the Republic of Ireland's capital mixes its medieval background with a palpable buoyancy to create one of Europe's most thriving and accessible cities.

The many trendy bars, luxury hotels, high street shopping outlets and fancy restaurants are proof that Dublin is now one of Europe's most cosmopolitan cities.

There is, of course, much more to Dublin away from the vibrancy of the city centre. From Malahide and Portmarnock on the north side of the county, to Killiney and Dún Laoghaire on the south side, Dublin boasts one of the most stunning coastlines in Ireland, located within easy reach of the city centre. Visitors can use Dublin's train service – the Dart – which travels along the entire coastline of the county and is a convenient way to take in the breathtaking views along Dublin's coast.

Home to literary greats James Joyce, George Bernard Shaw and Oscar Wilde, the city boasts an abundance of delightful Georgian architecture - many examples of which can be found on Merrion Square, which also houses Dáil Éireann, Ireland's Houses of Parliament. St. Stephen's Green, Trinity College and of course, the Guinness Storehouse are all within walking distance of each other in the compact city centre.

Whether you're exploring the medieval heritage and history of ‘old' Dublin or sampling the city's relentless energy, what remains special is the spirit of the people who will always be willing to join in the ‘craic' (a good time) and ensure that Dublin remains one of Europe's most down-to-earth and friendly cities.
