Hungary has joined the Schengen agreement, meaning you can enter on a European Union Schengen visa and there are no longer any ID/passport controls on the EU borders. Citizens of Croatia can enter Hungary by just showing their identity card. Citizens of Australia, New Zealand, the USA, Canada, Mexico and Venezuela do not require a visa. Visitors can stay 90 days without any additional permits.
As a general rule make sure your passport has at least six months' validity from your planned date of return.
You may be required to show immigration officials that you have return or onward tickets and adequate means of support and accommodation upon entering Hungary.
Travellers coming directly to or from a country outside the European Union who are carrying 10,000 Euros or more are required to declare the cash at the place of their arrival or departure from the EU. Under the legislation, the term "cash" includes cheques, travellers' cheques and money orders. Travellers failing to declare the cash or providing incomplete or incorrect information will incur a fine. There is no requirement to declare cash for people travelling to or from another EU country.
There is no departure tax fee when leaving Hungary.
As entry requirements may change from time to time it is strongly advised that you check with the department of foreign affairs or your local consulate or embassy for the current requirements.
