Situated on the southwest coast of Viti Levu between Natadola in the west and Waidroka Bay in the east lies Fiji's Coral Coast. Being one of the first areas of Fiji to be developed for tourism, this picturesque stretch of coastline offers a wide variety of accommodation including resorts, hotels, villas and backpacker hostels, as well as an exciting nightlife atmosphere.
The Queens Highway, which links Nadi with the southern parts of the country meanders along the coast through lush scenery and local villages. White, sandy beaches are washed by turquoise waters, with the coral barrier reef marking the drop into the dark blue of the Pacific Ocean.
The Coral Coast is popular with a large cross section of travellers not only for its great natural beauty, but also for the variety of both water and land-based activities. Village visits with traditional Kava ceremonies and Fijian lovo feasts are popular and provide a unique insight into the traditional Fijian way of life. Another good day out is a visit to the town of Sigatoka located near the mouth of the Sigatoka River with its central farmers marketplace, eateries, craft and souvenir shops.
Trekking or rafting through the lush rainforest are also popular for more active visitors, whilst boat trips up the mighty Sigatoka River provide the opportunity to see some of the island's fertile interior and tour a local village.
