Ripley Yorkshire Information

One of England\'s last surviving estate villages, Ripley village surrounds Ripley Castle, which has been home to the Ingilby family - who themselves have an extremely colourful history - for over 600 years.

The ancient parish church of All Saints in the village still has a weeping cross in its churchyard and there is evidence of bullet holes, believed to have been fired during the civil war, in the east wall of the church.

Guided tours of Ripley Castle show items collected over the centuries, from Civil War armour to Venetian chandeliers. The castle is set among deer park, lakes and walled gardens created by \'Capability\' Brown. The gardens contain the National Hyacinth Collection and the Tropical Plant Collection, which includes some very unusual specimen plants.
