Manchester is a unique city, described as original, edgy and happening the city in the north of England is a mix of the old and the new. It was once a hub of industrialisation and was at the centre of the Industrial Revolution in the 18th and 19th centuries but has now evolved into a free spirited metropolis full of art, culture, history and new ideas.

The city's architecture is a striking mix of old world charm and gleaming modern design. Home to neo-gothic buildings such as the Town Hall and the Pantheon inspired Central Library and the former cotton exchange which is now the largest theatre in the round on earth, the city has it's share of historic gems. Alongside these monuments to times past, new and exciting developments have sprung up around the city. Beetham Tower's striking rectangular glass exterior houses the Hilton Hotel. The Millenium Quarter , the Printworks, and many other areas around the city have some exceptional modern architecural designs.

The music scene in Manchester is alive and well and has been pumping for many years. Giving rise to such acts as Oasis, The Bee Gees, New Order, The Buzzcocks and Joy Division to name a few, the city continues to be a place where live music is always on the agenda. There are over 30 live music venues in action around Greater Manchester and a great many music shops and record stores to explore.

Visitors will love the Manchester peoples self deprecating humour and apetite for a party. It's a great fun city.
