Denmark is filled with historic castles and monuments, a coastline that offers broad sandy beaches, gentle fjords and small coves, and picturesque villages and towns. The country consists of low rolling hills, cool shady forests, beautiful lakes, extensive areas of heath land, living sand dunes and striking cliffs. To add to this picture is also the 400 surrounding islands which each offer their own unique attractions. Inland from the many unspoiled beaches and islands is a landscape eminently suited to cycling. Denmark is comprised of Jutland, a large peninsular in the North Sea, as well as many islands, the largest of which are Funen and Zealand (where the capital city of Copenhagen is located). Out of the 400 islands that comprise Denmark only 72 are populated.

Denmark was once a country known for its dreaded Viking warriors that were feared throughout northwest Europe, but today it is a country that is peaceful, neutral, introspective and egalitarian. However Denmark is quite insular which is evidenced by the fact it chose not to adopt the European monetary system instead kept the Danish kroner.

It is well known for its world class architecture and high standards of infrastructure which are evident in its modern and efficient transportation system and buildings. It is also the birthplace of Lego and the best place in the world to buy Lego bricks is at the Legoland theme park in Billund. With its wonderful northern European cuisine, beautiful Scandinavian countrysides and helpful, amiable and welcoming locals Denmark is a destination that should be on every traveller's must-visit list
