Weather

The main population centre in Costa Rica is the Central Valley which averages around 22°C (72°F). The climate for this region is spring-like for most of the year. This is in contrast to the coastal regions where the temperature is hotter and more humid, while the Pacific Northwest is dry and hot.

May through to November is the rainy season in Costa Rica and the warm dry season extends from December to May with temperature differences very minimal between summer and winter.

Hurricane season in the country is from June to November when disruptions to essential services may occur due to landslides, mudslides, and flooding. If a hurricane does occur monitor local media reports and follow the instructions of local emergency officials if necessary.

Lightweight clothing is adequate for most of the year in Costa Rica however it does get cool in the evenings so ensure you have some warmer clothes available.

Waterproof clothing is necessary during the rainy season. Loose-fitting clothing is generally the best option.
