Prince Albert National Park Information

Prince Albert National Park of Canada is one of Saskatchewan’s most popular four-season destinations, a place where you can mix northern wilderness encounters with the comforts of a lakeside resort. The park covers some 388,000 hectares, or nearly one million acres in an area of transition from aspen parkland to boreal forest that includes some 1,500 lakes and streams.

Check out resort and RV amenities in the picturesque resort community of Waskesiu, soak up some rays on the beaches, hike scenic nature walks and interpretive trails, go bird and wildlife watching, and play a round on the stunning Waskesiu Golf Course. Adjacent to the park, the world-class Elk Ridge Resort offers 27 championship holes cut from the rugged forest of north central Saskatchewan.

Make the overnight trek on foot/canoe to Grey Owl’s Cabin on the shores of Ajawaan Lake. Or book a day trip by watercraft through Waskesiu Marina Adventure Centre. In the 1930s, Grey Owl rose to fame as a naturalist, lecturer and best-selling author for his impassioned calls for wilderness preservation. But he was also keeping a secret. Get the whole story at the Friends of Prince Albert National Park/Grey Owl Museum in Waskesiu.

Wildlife in the park reflects the changing habitat. Moose, wolves and caribou inhabit the northern forests while elk, deer and badgers inhabit the southern parkland region. Bison roam freely in the southwest corner of the park, where pockets of fescue grassland can be found. This herd is one of only two such herds protected within a Canadian national park.
