Kluane National Park Information

If you've ever imagined standing amidst a sweeping landscape of mountain valleys carved by glaciers and sprinkled with alpine wildflowers, you will get to live your dream in Kluane National Park and Reserve of Canada. An icon of North America and the centrepiece of the Kluane region in Yukon, Kluane National Park and Reserve of Canada is one of our natural treasures and was declared a World Heritage Site in 1979.

Encompassing breathtaking views of lush valleys, mountain ranges and the world's largest non-polar icefields, Kluane National Park and Reserve of Canada is part of the largest internationally protected wilderness area in the world. Four interconnecting wilderness parks in British Columbia, Alaska and the Yukon are designated a World Heritage Site. The traditional territories of the Champagne-Aishihik, Kluane and White River First Nations all lie in this region, including Canada's tallest mountain - Mount Logan .

This vast wilderness park in southwest Yukon is home to grizzly bears, Dall sheep, moose, wolves and mountain goats. Canada's highest peak, Mount Logan (5,959 metres / 19,550 feet), is a massive presence in the heart of Kluane National Park and Reserve of Canada.

Buried in ice 1.5 km (4,900 feet) deep, Mount Logan is surrounded by the expansive St. Elias Icefields. Glaciers 100-km (60 miles) long flow down Kluane's broad sweeping valleys. Hikers can see Kluane's glaciers on multi-day backcountry hikes. For most visitors, a flightseeing tour is the way to view these magnificent rivers of ice.

Kluane's vast backcountry and frothing rivers are among the world's top wilderness adventure destinations. Raft the Alsek River, hike the Cottonwood Trail or paddle Kathleen Lake. Join guided walks to the alpine, and learn about grizzly bear habitat from naturalists. The highways skirting the park offer trails, campgrounds and all kinds of day adventures to explore Kluane country.

Yukon adventure companies offer all kinds of memorable day trips and longer excursions to suit wide-ranging interests and abilities. Activities include canoeing, nature walks, rafting, fishing, visits with elders, flightseeing, horseback riding, mountain biking and hiking.
