The township of Banff is celebrated as the highest town in Canada and has a relaxed festive atmosphere. It is a great base for skiing in the winter or hiking in the summer. The magnificent Icefield Parkway winds 230 kms through beautiful rugged scenery between Lake Louise and Jasper. Here you can visit the amazing Sunwapta Falls or walk on the Athabasca Glacier. All along the Parkway there is an amazing amount of wildlife and if you're lucky you'll spot moose and deer and the occasional majestic bear lumbering across the road - just don't get too close!
The incredibly beautiful Johnstone Canyon is just off the Bow Valley Parkway and provides an easy walk to see the crystal clear water rushing through the canyon before ending up in Bow River far to the south.
