The incredible Athabasca Falls are a short 30 km drive from Jasper along the legendary Icefield Parkway.

In summer the upper Athabasca River thunders into the canyon below, where it then flows down to Jasper township. White water rafting adventure tours often start at the base of the 23m falls.

In winter the mighty Athabasca is tamed by the freezing temperatures and the falls are frozen solid and transformed into a vertical iceflow. The colours of the frozen water fall range from dazzling white to sapphire blue depending on the sunlight.

The alpine forests that surround the hike to the canyon are transformed into a magical winter wonderland by a blanket of pure white snow.
