Uluwatu Beach is located on the western shore of the Bukit Penisula on the southern coast of Bali. The Bukit can be reached by Taxi, car or tour bus and is around half an hour from Kuta.
The area around Uluwatu is beautiful and offers spectacular views over the ocean from the cliff tops. Nearby is the famous Uluwatu Hindu Temple, another of the main tourist attractions on the Bukit. Surrounded by lush vegetation and spectacular rock formations, the area around beach can be enjoyed by surfers and non surfers alike.
The surf beach is reached by about a 5 minute walk down a steep track. The small beach at the bottom is surrounded by rock formations and is worth the walk even if you are not heading out into the water. Clear blue waters over a reef lead out to the substantial swell which is generally between 1 and 4 metres and so not for novice surfers. As well as the great surfing kite boarding and snorkelling are also enjoyed here.
Onlookers can enjoy watching the action from a viewing platform at the top of the cliff, and there are a number of cafe's nearby for a bite to eat or a cool drink. Also nearby there is accommodation available for those wanting to stay a while.
