The prestigious Cutloose Cooper’s Yorke’s Classic is an event for surfers to challenge themselves in the biggest, best waves available over a three day window. It's South Australia’s premier surfing event attracting some of Australia’s best surfers.
The event is held in the pristine environment surrounding the Innes National Park, where the truly spectacular natural scenery is matched by awesome action in the water over the October long weekend.
The Yorke’s Surfing Classic is held on southern Yorke Peninsula between Daly Head and the Innes National Park. Spring time provides for optimum conditions. There will be eager scanning for the arrival of swell conditions similar to the 2005 event, which saw 3-4 metre waves at the notoriously dangerous Chinaman’s Reef.
In an Australian surfing first, this year's Yorke’s Surfing Classic will set a green benchmark for the sport, by offsetting the greenhouse gas emissions that will be generated by the participants.
Surf Culture Australia, organisers of the 2009 event, have committed to purchasing certified carbon credits to offset emissions generated from co-ordinating and running the event. The emissions will come from sources such as travel to and from southern Yorke Peninsula for more than 60 competitors and officials.
