Melbourne Zoo Information

What there is to see and do More than 350 wildlife species are on display in brilliant botanical settings, just 4 kilometres from the CBD. Melbourne Zoo's magnificent new Trail of the Elephants Exhibit, which opened mid March, provides visitors with an amazing insight into the world of the Asian Elephant. Keeper Talks, new viewing opportunities, and fascinating displays make this a 'must-do' experience. The huge barn, the walking trails, and the deep pool will make this new exhibit a world's-best achievement for the Zoo! Other highlights at the Zoo include the African and Asian Rainforest displaying Gorillas, Pygmy Hippopotamus, Mandrills, Tigers, Otters and the World of Bugs and Butterflies. There is also an extensive collection of Australian animals including Koalas, Kangaroos, Wombats, Platypus, Penguins and Seals. Free Guided Tours Complimentary guided tours are available daily, between 10 am and 3 pm. These tours are operated by our Friends of the Zoos volunteer guides, who are extensively trained and well qualified to answer visitor questions. Bookings are required for tour groups. Packages Melbourne Zoo is featured in the See Melbourne and Beyond Card. Zoo Twilights During the summer months, the Zoo remains open on selected evenings until 9.30pm for the Zoo Twilights. Animals are on display until late and there are special Meet the Keeper opportunities. There is live music, featuring some great Australian bands and many catering options available. There is no additional admission charge for Twilights and no need to book.
