Fitzroy Gardens Information

Fitzroy Gardens is one of the oldest city gardens in the country. A mix of native and introduced trees decorate the green space, each telling its own story. Some tell of Aboriginal culture which was once present in the area while another has been named the fairies tree and is decorated appropriately.

Besides the beauty of the natural elements within the park it is also home to some heritage buildings and 19th century cottages which themselves look like something out of a fairy tale. Fitzroy Gardens are of a particular significance to Melbourne, reflecting the importance which was placed, during the 19th century, on the publics' need to escape the city. The idea that everyone should be able to relax away from the hustle and bustle of the city still continues in Melbourne today.
