Casterton Information

The small town of Casterton has a population of about 2000 people. It is surrounded by rolling hills and is nestled in a golden valley.

The major industries in the area are primarily farming, dairy produce and timber. Activities include golf or some organised physical activity at the Casterton sporting centre.

The first settler in Casterton was Thomas Mitchell who found the area in 1836. The name of the town comes from a Roman word meaning 'walled city'. This originates from the green hills which surround the town.

The famous Australian kelpie statue, immmortalized in bronze, sits at the front of the town hall on Henty Street.
