Umbukumba is a small aboriginal community situated on the picturesque east coast of Groote Eylandt in the Gulf of Carpentaria. It is governed by the Anindilyakwa Land Council. The community is one of three closely related communities on the island which maintain traditional values and which have close ties to the mainland. Angurgu is home to a large manganese mine and Alyangula is a modern town from where the ore is shipped.

Umbukumba is reached via Barlabulmba Bay along picturesque coastline. There is a large prawn factory and the whole area is great for crabbing, fishing and boating.
