The Esplanade Information
The Esplanade in Darwin stretches along Darwin Harbour, facing west to take advantage of some fantastic sunsets – no visit to Darwin is complete without taking in the Esplanade at sunset. The Esplanade is home to many hotels, all making the most of the spectacular harbour views. It also boasts many bars, tour operators and galleries as well as some lovely old tropical homes. Parkland along the Esplanade provides the perfect shady place for a picnic as well as extensive cycling and walking tracks. Scattered throughout are war memorials and displays showing highlights of Darwin’s history.
The Esplanade is only five minutes from the centre of the city and provides the venue for many local festivals and concerts– such as the famous Greek Glendi, and the Festival of Darwin. It was the focus for the commemoration of the bombing of Darwin by the Japanese from 1942.
