Tennant Creek Museum at Tuxworth Fullwood House Information

Visit the historic Tuxworth Fullwood House in Tennant Creek for a fascinating glimpse into the outback of the early twentieth century.

Tuxworth Fullwood House was built by the Army in 1942 as No. 55 Australian Camp Hospital. After its decommissioning as a war hospital it became the outpatients section of the Tennant Creek Hospital until 1978. It was finally handed to the National Trust for restoration and opened as a museum showcasing the history of the Barkly Region.

Today the building is the only remnant of the 55 Military Camp Hospital. It houses a wide range of exhibits, including a 1930s police cell and steam traction engine. It also houses a reconstruction of a miner's camp and mine workings, and a Furphy water cart.

It also houses a unique archive of material relating to the life of Tennant Creek including early photographs of the town and its people. It is open to the public from May to September for two hours a day, Monday to Friday.
