Moorilla Estate, on the Derwent River north of Hobart, is a top Tasmanian boutique vineyard. Moorilla Estate was established in 1958 by wine pioneer Claudio Alcorso. It was the first vineyard to make major plantings of pinot noir grapes, now Tasmania's most successful red-wine grape. The 3.5 hectare peninsula that juts into the Derwent River yields pinot noir, riesling and gewurztraminer grapes. The cellar door and The Source restaurant are open every day; lunch is served daily, and dinner Friday and Saturday. There are daily tours of the winery and wine tastings.
The Moorilla Wine and Food Centre is a stylish glass and steel two storey structure featuring top Tasmanian contemporary art.
The five-star stylish Moorilla Chalets apartments each feature items from the Moorilla Museum of Old and New Art and your own private Moorilla wine collection.
The Moorilla Museum of Old and New Art is currently under redevelopment and due to reopen in 2009.
The Moo Brew brewery makes three boutique beers: American Pale ale; Hefeweizen (a German cloudy wheat beer) and a Pilsener.
