Perth Information

Perth is located only 19kms south of Launceston. It is named after the Scottish town and the site was chosen by Governor Macquarie in 1821 and declared a township in 1836. As a result it has many interesting Georgian and Victorian buildings including coaching inns and mansions with no less than 41 heritage listed buildings. The bridge over the South Esk river has been destroyed by floods several times and rebuilt with the most recent bridge built in 1971.

Today it is a small village (population less than 2000) largely unspoilt by tourism - perhaps because of its proximity to Launceston and other historical towns.
