Burnside Heritage Centre

Burnside Heritage Centre at North Parramatta, set amongst grand historic homes and tranquil garden settings, is a place to discover how children were

cared for in the early Burnside Home days and trace the changes in child welfare over time.

An exhibition entitled ' Voices from the Past, Focus for the Future' offers a rare insight into growing up in a home - the fun times and the

sadness.

The first of its kind, the museum uses a blend of tradition, technology, interactive displays and first-hand accounts from Burnside's residents to

tell a unique story about unique lives.

The Burnside Homes were built in 1911 by Sir James Burns, a prominent businessman and trader in his time. His vision was realised when orphaned and

destitute children were housed in large group homes within a self-contained village.

Burnside Heritage Centre is a magnificent landmark, with its fairy-tale turrets and architectural styles.
