EDUCATION
Australia Zoo's motto is 'Conservation through Exciting Education', and this promise is certainly kept. Providing educational experiences that are both interactive for students and engaging for teachers, Australia Zoo's Crikey! Curriculum programs are written around Queensland syllabi. There are three main types of educational programs available at Australia Zoo.
- Tribe Talks: A 30 minute presentation delivered by Australia Zoo's Education Team, in beautiful, tropical surrounds. The presentation does not let down the Zoo's reputation for close encounters with wildlife, with a visit from an animal relevant to the selected topic.
- Walkabout Tours: A 45 minute guided tour provided by one of the Zoo's Education Officers. Key commentary is provided at selected enclosures in accordance to the topic that has been chosen. The tour is for up to 10 to 15 students.
- Discovery Experiences: These experiences are designed to complete a unit of work, the highlight, a unique experience at the Zoo, can only be arranged as part of the program. The preparation that your students undertake as part of the pre-visit activities is essential to get the most out of this amazing experience.
As well as our programs, students can nibble on their lunches whilst experiencing the slithering, swooping, and jaw-snapping fun of the new Wildlife Warriors 101 show in the Animal Planet Crocoseum. Once the show is over students are free to roam around with their teachers and experience the Zoo's award winning facilities.
Australia Zoo's website www.australiazoo.com.au is bursting with information about these programs and general facts you will need to know for your day at the Zoo. Just click on the Education link on the Zoo's home page. You can even download worksheets online to make things that little bit easier!
