Southern Downs Information
The Southern Downs is Queensland’s high, cool country. It produces much of South East Queensland’s fresh fruit and vegetables and undoubtedly it’s finest wines. Tour wineries and taste award-winning wines. Sample delicious stone fruits straight from the grower. Explore the region's history and heritage. Take a bushwalk in a spectacular national park or share the romance of an open log fire. Try your hand at freshwater fishing or fossicking, or go sailing on the region's dams. In the Southern Downs you experience real country life and hospitality.
The region includes many historic – but very much alive – towns, including Stanthorpe and Warwick, famous for its roses and it’s dairy produce, some of which go nicely with the region’s wines. The region is a great alternative to the beaches of the coastal area.
Giraween National Park contains some of the most striking rock formations in the country, with views across spectacular natural countryside.
The Southern Downs is a place to experience a different kind of Queensland, but one you’ll find as enchanting as it is surprising.
