Pondalowie Bay Information

At Pondalowie Bay a protected sandy beach capped by dense vegetation will often really turn it on, with either perfect 'tuberoonies' (surf parlance for well-shaped waves) or beach fishing action.

The name Pondalowie is the Aboriginal name which translated means 'limestone water hole'. Pondolwie Bay was a very important area for the indigenous people of the land who used the bay to capture Animals which they were hunting for food, such as Kangaroos.

To physically travel to Pondalowie, visitors must follow a one way bush track which stretches for 12.8 kilometers. This includes crossing minor sand dunes. This may seem like a bit of a trek however for keen surfers and fishermen, it is a must do when exploring the Yorke Peninsular.
