The North Coast has its own unique character - from the rugged, isolated northwest through to the expansive white sandy beach of Emu Bay.
Eighteen kilometres northwest of Kingscote, Emu Bay is a beautiful 4km beach with safe swimming and vehicle access. A favourite swimming beach for the locals, this quiet town is a haven for holidaymakers. Anglers can try their luck from the jetty or launch their boats from the access ramp. West of Emu Bay, the delightful North Coast is the perfect place for a few days retreat from the busier South Coast of Kangaroo Island. A mixture of tall cliffs, deserted sandy coves and beaches line the coast with conservation parks, hills, valleys and rolling farmland meeting the sea. Base yourself at one of the quiet self-contained retreats and enjoy fishing, beachcombing and touring.
The drive from Western River Cove is beautiful with rolling hills typical of the entire North Coast. Stop at Wind in Wings Gallery for art, food and wine in spectacular surrounds. Look for dolphins from Constitution Hill lookout at spectacular Snellings Beach. Entertaining stops on route to Stokes Bay include Rare Breeds Farm with its unusual farm animals, Paul's Place hands-on wildlife experience and Stokes Bay Bush Garden. Do not miss the hidden beach at Stokes Bay - make your way through the tunnel on the eastern end of the beach. Emu Bay is a peaceful retreat and a safe swimming beach - visit the Emu Bay Lavender Farm on the way out of town towards Kingscote.
