Currency Creek Information

A well-established wine region with several popular wineries and cellar doors, Currency Creek was once muted as a site for the South Australian capital.

The town is also well known for its creek, sidewalks, Aboriginal scar trees, railway viaduct and jet sprint racing. Its cemetery is the final resting place of many of the captains from the River Murray steam powered paddleboats. Take time to walk through the nearby Black Swamp, a heritage-listed wetland with rare bird species.

It was named after Currency Lass, the first vessel to negotiate the Murray Mouth, the area lies six kilometres north of Goolwa on the road to Strathalbyn.
