Crafers Information

Crafers is one of the earliest settlements in the Adelaide Hills region. Only sixteen kilometers out of Adelaide, the natural and historical features of the town offer a quick getaway for those in need of an escape.

Make sure to stop by the Crafers Hotel, the oldest hotel in the region. Take the short drive out to the Mt Lofty Summit and visit the botanical gardens.

Crafers was named after entrepreneur David Crafers. Mr Crafers was known for his obscure public relation techniques which he used to attract customers to his pub. In 1839 he famously put an advertisement in the South Australian Newspaper which confessed to slaughtering a bullock and offered for anyone who wishes to come and have a look to do so. His pub, the Norfolk Inn, eventually became known as a popular drinking place for a very interesting crowd.
