Whilst the Hay races are a professional meeting, the day has very much a "Picnic Races" atmosphere with numerous groups setting up picnic tables. There are full TAB facilities and Sky Channel available, an undercover betting ring, barbecue, bar facilities and a champagne bar. Bookings for marquees are very popular, for Christmas parties, birthdays or school reunions. Fashions of the Field are another highlight of the day, with a fantastic array of prizes to win for both female and male entrants.

Entertainment is provided at the showgrounds that night after the last race has finished. After the races, Hay's hospitality is extended with local hotels and clubs providing entertainment also
