Located at the mouth of the Tweed River, the Twin Towns - Tweed Heads (New South Wales) and Coolangatta (Queensland) share a main street that straddles the state border. They also share some truly beautiful beaches.
Just a 30 minute drive from Murwillumbah and the rain forests of Mt Warning and Springbrook National Parks, the area has re-established itself as a family resort destination. There is plenty of accommodation to choose from, ranging from 4 star hotels to pensions, from luxury serviced apartments to backpcker hostels and caravan parks. There are plenty of clubs to visit and offer reasonable meals and even accommodation.
Tweed Heads has so much to offer including some of the best sun bathing, swimming and surfing in Australia. You can rent house-boats, small fishing boats, or take a cruise (serving gourmet seafood meals on board) along the beautiful Tweed River. You can book a fishing charter for a day trip "outside" for ocean fishing.
There are many lovely drives to be made into the lovely countryside which makes up Northern New South Wales, including rainforests, Mt Warning, the hinterland with its lovely scenery. For those who like the active life there are "theme parks" just a nice drive away, and of course Surfers Paradise.
There is always plenty to do in this part of the beautiful state of New South Wales
