Undulating is the best way to describe the terrain in which nestles the Capital Country town of Young. A primary cherry-growing area - the Annual Cherry Festival commences on the last weekend in November - it's located close to both Cowra and Cootamundra and is also renowned for its growth of other delicious winter fruits.
Initially founded as a mining town, historical remnants of that golden era make Young a great sightseeing destination for those interested in Australia's pioneering legend. Chinaman's Dam, established by two Dutch brothers in the 1860s, is just four kilometres out of the town and has an extensive recreation and aquatic reserve, while Blackguard Gully Goldmining is a three-hectare area dedicated to prospecting.
