New England North West Information
Know locally as 'Big Sky Country' the New England North West is an area to enjoy the road less travelled. It is an oasis of natural attractions. Explore World Heritage-listed national parks, pristine nature reserves, and famous rivers and dams which are great for water sports. The area is also internationally acclaimed by bird-watchers as a great place to spot rare bird species. There is a diverse range of experiences in this pocket of inland New South Wales. Instead of taking the well-worn coast road or crossing the border, enjoy the best of the bush and some great Australian history heritage and culture.
The natural landscapes of Big Sky Country are some of the best you will see. From the New England where the mild climate, meandering valleys, tranquil waterfalls and World Heritage-listed Oxley Wild Rivers World Heritage will all provide postcard-like photo moments. The landscapes vary from steep wooded hills and native forest to wide fertile valleys fringed by a haze of blue ranges. To the North West, the skies unfold to deliver spectacular vistas and experiences such as thermal spring spa baths, more National Parks such as Mount Kaputar and the gateway to the Outback.
The region is well known for its Bush Ranger past and a trip to the area wouldn't be complete without taking in Australia's history and heritage when traveling along Thunderbolt's Way, fossicking for riches in gold, seeking out precious treasurers.
