Mt Blue Cow is Australia's newest ski resort between Perisher and
Guthega in the Snowy Mountains. It was developed in conjunction with National Parks and Wildlife to address the need to extend ski facilities in an environmentally friendly way. The area has great natural beauty and is famous for the 150 year old snow gums and the rare mountain pygmy possum.
There is no overnight accommodation and no cars. The resort can only be reached by the Skitube which was completed in 1987. It runs from Bullock Flats near Jindabyne through to Perisher and then on to Mount Blue Cow at 1875m. The Skitube runs for 8.5kms, 6.3kms of which, is tunnel through the mountains. All facilities are located at the Skitube station including a ski school, equipment hire, bars and restaurants.
The peak was named after the hybrid cattle bred in the area by James Spencer, the first leaseholder of the range.
