Morwell Information

With a population of approximately 22,000, Morwell is Latrobe Valley’s second largest town nestled in centre of the valley. Two and a half acres of landscaped rose gardens await you to meander and stroll through its gardens upon entering Morwell at the Centenary Rose Garden. The garden is one of the finest in the southern hemisphere and the Rose Rotunda is a popular place for outdoor weddings.

Morwell is best known as the centre of the state’s brown coal mining and electricity production industry and PowerWorks offers regular tours of the electrical and mining industry.

It is home to a range of entertainment and leisure activities as well as arts and history. The Latrobe Regional gallery will entice lovers of art and culture to its doors as its offers some of Australia’s outstanding artworks including local and national artists.

South of the town centre approximately 16 kms, far enough to escape to the bush you will find the Morwell National Park which is appreciated by nature enthusiasts and its fertile plains offer a natural habitat to the native flora and fauna. Enjoy its walking trails or splendour in its beauty in one of its many picturesque picnic spots.
