An elevated boardwalk will take you through several types of rainforest, post notes (storyboards) along the way explain the unusual features. Over 90 different species of ferns and over 80 different species of native trees have been identified in the 400 hectares of rare bush, including the rare Illawarra Fig, Red Cedar, Cabbage Tree, Palms and Elkhorn's. Wildlife includes spectacular bird species, including lyrebirds, parrots and honeyeaters and it attracts 119,000 visitors per year.
It is a 2-hour return walk to Minnamurra Falls, (this cannot be started after 3.00pm) and a 1 hour walk is also available. The first 900 metres of the loop walk is suitable for wheelchair access.
The upper falls walk area will give you a view of the rainforest canopy and below and continues onto the upper falls of the Minnamurra River.
The 1.3km walk linked into an existing 1.6km elevated boardwalk, it replaces former logging and walking tracks and terminates at a natural amphitheatre at the falls. The river drops to a picturesque pond and then
links with the falls of a tributary creek before it drops into the slot canyon. The walk is steep but not too difficult if you take the time to enjoy the rainforest and read the information posted along the way.
Much of the new falls walk is constructed from specially designed non-slip ripple sole concrete pavers, which provide excellent traction for walkers in the moist rainforest environment.
After taking in the tranquil beauty of the reserve, relax and enjoy a picnic or if preferred there is a well-stocked kiosk. Recent development of the site offers sealed parking for buses and cars, toilets, rainforest information centre with displays of fauna and flora, audio-visuals and shop and an outdoor Education area.
Distances and times to complete walks:
