Malanda was first developed in the 1880's and has since become the milk capital of north Queensland. Situated 85km from Cairns atop the Atherton Tablelands malanda is a small and pleasant town surrounded by some picturesque waterfalls and rainforest. in 1886 a decision was made to connect Malanda to Cairns via the railway and this proved to be critical to getting Malanda established. From this point in cattle arrived, a timber mill was extablished and local business's took hold.
Malanda exports milk and dairy products to Northern Queensland, Northen territory and internationally to Indonesia and Malaysia making it a household name in the North.
