Hobart Information
Tasmania's capital lies in the south-east of the state, at the foot of Mount Wellington. This pretty city is most famous for its 19th-century waterfront warehouses, which now house cafés, restaurants and studios bustling with shoppers and visitors.
Enjoy browsing the markets and art galleries along the waterfront, the cosmopolitan dining of North Hobart and the historic charm of Battery Point. The mountain is a world of its own, and there are many other attractions of historic or cultural interest. Hobart's busy arts scene takes in art, craft, music and theatre. Here you can enjoy Irish jigs or pub rock, a flutter at the Wrest Point casino, street buskers and string quartets, as well as both classic and contemporary performances.
Hobart is also a good base from which to do day trips and to explore other regions on the island, particularly the rugged South West. Cruise the dazzling Derwent River, have an adventure out to Bruny Island and explore the beauty of the Huon Valley. Or stay closer to town and visit the Cascade Brewery and Cadbury Chocolate Factory for a taste sensation!
